The Legend of the Let's Be Well Logo
The horizontal thrust: "Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." I John 4:10. The four thrusts suggest the points of a compass. God is willing to provide direction for our lives. "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:6. The triangle within the cross-shaped structure, then, can represent the person whose life is hidden in the cross of Christ. The crossbar can also represent the yoke that Jesus promised was easy. Imagine work that produces sweat on our brows and exercise for our bodies, balanced by the gift of sabbath, which provides rest, fellowship, and worship to enrich our spirits.
This balanced structure can also depict much more. There are four seasons, so imagine the summer sun across the top, and pure distilled rainwater in the light blue area originating from God, who lets the sun rise on people whether they are good or evil, and lets rain fall on them whether they are just or unjust. [Matt 5:45]. Imagine the green of spring at the west compass point, across from the barrenness that begins when the leaves begin to fall in autumn, introducing the season when all nature rests. Overlay that in your imagination with the concept of seedtime and harvest, the traditional time for giving thanks in our culture. At the ends of the four points, imagine God's other gifts to match our human needs:
The colors also have significance. The royal blue-purple depicts the royalty of Christ the King, while the flesh-color represents his humanity. We too are called to be a royal priesthood, [I Peter 2:9]. In the oldest book in the Bible Job affirmed that in his flesh he would see God. [Job 14:26.] The Legacy of Let's Be WellA child is asked, "What do you want to be?" An adult is asked, "What do you do?" At our age we ask ourselves, "Who have we become, and what is our legacy?" When we began teaching Let's Be Well in January 1994, we had no idea what it would become. I was newly well from nearly two years of a life-threatening acute illness, as well as from fifteen years of debilitating chronic arthritis. Dick had lost 50 pounds, dropped his cholesterol 100 points, and was off his blood pressure medication with his doctor's blessing. Our desire was to spare others the suffering we had experienced. In his mercy, God began gathering to our classes many people who were willing to listen to us. We continue to challenge ourselves to do what we can to be resource people for anyone who asks. Let's Be Well was incorporated as a mechanism for helping ourselves and others to make the transition away from a predominantly animal-based diet towards a balanced lifestyle that is centered in healthier, more sustainable, environmentally-responsible food choices. We envision that our legacy will be the investment we have made in the lives of those who make compassionate, life-affirming decisions each time they sit down to share a meal. May it be so. +++ | |
